Special Education UnitThe Special Education Unit (SEU) at Bremer State High School works to maximize access to quality educational outcomes for all students with disabilities within our community. The SEU’s role is to develop, coordinate and deliver educational and social programs appropriate to the individual needs of the students. Students ascertained with a disability or who have been profiled using the Education Adjustment Program who are at most risk of failing to participate or achieve success in the regular curriculum, are identified and provided with access to appropriate programs. The level of support and degree of alternate or modified programming is dependant on the perceived needs of each student. Students functioning at a high level may require only minimum support in the form of regular monitoring. The support given to students with higher educational needs may take the form of modified programming in literacy and numeracy, sessional withdrawal, small group activities and assistance in the regular classroom. Working TogetherThe staff of the Special Education Unit work together with parents, specialist teachers, advisory visiting teachers, secondary school staff and outside agencies to provide rich learning experiences that are practical, worthwhile and meeting the individual needs of the students. We have a strong commitment to maintaining a supportive and equitable environment that enables each child to feel confident and happy at school. Being an integral part of Bremer State High School enables students to access learning both within the unit and in the secondary school environment according to individual needs. Students with DisabilitiesStudents who are eligible to enrol in the Special Education Unit are students who have either been diagnosed with a disability, have been Ascertained at levels 4, 5 or 6 or completed the Education Adjustment Program with their disability being one of the following: The Special Education Unit delivers individualised programs to suit individuals’ needs in the form of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s).
